Questions people ask
How do I work out the cost of running an appliance?
kWh = watts × hours ÷ 1,000, and cost = kWh × price per kWh. A 1,500 W heater used 4 hours a day uses 6 kWh a day; at $0.17 per kWh that is $1.02 a day, about $31 a month.
Where do I find the wattage?
On the label or power adapter, usually on the back or bottom. Appliances like fridges and air conditioners cycle on and off, so their average draw is well below the label figure; a plug-in energy meter gives the real number.
