- Progressive rates 2%, 6%, 10%, 14% on successive HK$50,000 bands and 17% above; standard rate 15% on the first HK$5 million of net income and 16% above (from 2024/25). MPF: 5% of relevant income up to HK$30,000 a month, deductible up to HK$18,000 a year.

How is salaries tax worked out?
Tax is the lower of: progressive rates (2%, 6%, 10%, 14% on successive HK$50,000 slices, then 17%) on net chargeable income after allowances; or the standard rate (15% on the first HK$5 million of net income, 16% above) with no allowances. Most people pay progressive rates.
What does the 2026-27 Budget change?
It proposes a one-off reduction of 100% of salaries tax for 2025/26, up to HK$3,000, and higher allowances from 2026/27: basic HK$145,000, married HK$290,000, each child HK$140,000 and dependent parent aged 60+ HK$55,000.
