Your savings by age

Growing until retirement, then paying your income. In future money.

This is a projection, not a guarantee: returns vary from year to year, and taxes and fees reduce what you keep. Treat the numbers as a starting point for a conversation with a licensed financial adviser.

Questions people ask

How much do I need to retire?

Enough to pay the income your pension or social security doesn’t cover, for as long as you plan, while the rest stays invested. A common shortcut is the 4% rule: savings of 25 times the yearly income you need. This calculator works it out month by month instead.

Why does inflation matter so much?

At 2.5% inflation, prices double in about 28 years. $60,000 of today’s spending costs about $120,000 a year by then, so both the target and the projection here are adjusted for it.
