Questions people ask
Which regime should I choose?
The new regime has lower rates and no tax up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income, but almost no deductions. The old regime can win if you claim large deductions, typically well over ₹4–5 lakh through 80C, 80D, HRA and home-loan interest. The calculator works out both.
Did Budget 2026 change the slabs?
No. For FY 2026-27 the new-regime slabs (0% to ₹4 lakh, then 5% steps up to 30% above ₹24 lakh), the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the 87A rebate are unchanged. The Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act from 1 April 2026 without changing rates.
