Questions people ask
How is it worked out?
At least three weeks’ basic wage for every year of service once you have completed a year, with part years counted pro rata. The daily wage is commonly the monthly basic salary × 12 ÷ 365; some employers divide by 30 instead, which gives about 1.4% more.
Does resigning reduce it?
No. The legal minimum is the same whether you resign or your employer ends the contract, as long as you have worked at least a year. Your employer may deduct amounts you owe them.
Can my contract give more?
Yes. Three weeks is a floor, and many contracts give four weeks or a full month per year. Enter your contract’s number of weeks to see the difference; a month is about 4.3 weeks.
