How is the grade needed on the final worked out?
Needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final’s weight. With 85% now, a final worth 30% and a target of 90%, you need (90 − 85 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 ≈ 101.7%.
How does a weighted average work?
Multiply each score by its weight, add them up and divide by the total weight. Homework 92% (20%), midterm 78% (30%) and final 85% (50%) average 84.3%.
