Questions people ask
Why do the formulas disagree?
Each was fitted to different data and purposes. Devine’s was made for drug dosing, not appearance or health, and none of them consider frame size or muscle. Treat the spread as a rough range, alongside the healthy BMI range.
Which ideal weight formula should I use?
For health, the healthy BMI range (18.5–24.9) is the most widely used guide. Clinicians often use Devine for medication doses. If you are very muscular, body fat percentage says more than any weight formula.
